First Mozilla Conference !

It was raining since the dawn, obviously not a good start of the day when you are supposed to attend the conference of which you waited for so long.

This was going to be my first Mozilla conference. I, being an open source enthusiast regarded it as nothing less than the start of an incredible journey.

The weather seemed to have a plan to ruin my first conference & I was afraid that the rain may cause people to stay indoors.

I reached the conference hall right on the time, was expecting very few attendees but the hall was quite full, it felt as if the rain had no impact on the mozillian community! This shows how much people are interested in Mozilla rep events!

I grabbed the nearest seat to the stage; the environment was exciting, everyone discussing code with people whom they barely met a minute back!

Here’s a confession, I was a bit sceptical about the conference as I thought that only hardcore coders will understand most of it! But Within 2 minutes of the start of the conference, the speaker ‘Pushpita Dey’ cleared that the conference wasn’t just for coders; anyone can attend & gain a lot from it! This really calmed me down.

I had been searching for ways to contribute in Mozilla since long but unfortunately, I always found Mozilla’s website confusing. Pushpita dey cleared everything from why to contribute to how to contribute! All the doubts I had since months got cleared within moments.

After a great introduction about Mozilla by Pushita, the other speaker ‘Trishul’ lead the event forward. It was Mozilla’s add-ons day & Trishul not only explained the need of add-ons but also showed the audience how easy is it to create add-ons.

The best part of the event was how the speakers engaged with the audience, riddles & fun questions were regularly thrown at the audience & it kept the audience engaged.

I met a lot of people from different college, and everyone wanted to contribute to Mozilla in some way. I found some great people & we will be working a project as a team soon!

By the end of the event, we made some 3-4 add-ons. The mozillian volunteers helped attendees a lot; they made sure that no attendee faces any technical problem.

The people from Mozilla community, the speakers & the volunteers really impressed me, I talked with all of them personally, they were so eager to help me! This is probably the most helpful community I ever been part of!

By the time the conference ended, I couldn’t wait to register myself as Mozillian & start contributing!

Can’t wait to attend more such conferences!

Panda & Human Foolishness

//I delivered this speech on 19th August Loudspeakers meetup.

//this is unedited

“Panda”

What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘panda’?

Image result for panda

“Extreme cute animal which those black glimmering eyes” that’s the first image I believe we all get in our head

The second thing can be “the achievement of human beings in helping an endangered animal”

Really, the way the scientist has saved pandas is really commendable! It’s an achievement that we humans have enough knowledge to save a naturally fucked up species.

Let me explain a bit, how much fucked up pandas are!

The body of the panda is designed for a carnivorous diet! Their paws are developed to hunt small animals. And yet this animal somehow decided that he would only eat bamboos & would use his claws only to hang from the bamboo trees., Seems like pandas are the “Jains” of the animal kingdom!

Gandhi & What he stood for (Speech)

*I gave this speech in The Loudspeakers Aug 12 meet up

*This is unedited.

Imagine, a guy in this late 40s. Arrives back to his home country via a ship, he is wearing premium British clothes, holding a suitcase full of legal papers.

His dad worked for British Raj (East India Company) & helped the Britishers to collect tax from innocent peasants.

In his 20s, the guy was nothing more than a  spoiled brat, he smoked, he lied,, he drank!

He got to study England when about 10% Indians could read & write! He was lucky, that His family had enough wealth that he could spend his life resting.

But yet, this insane guy,  when he returned back to India did something no one in the history the of the world ever did.

One of the best books I ever read!

Image result for loved this book

The language is lucid & since the story is from point of view of a child, the narration traps innocence of a child, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

In my book reviews, I never talk about the synopsis, neither I talk much about characters as I prefer to read books without having the slightest idea of the story,  in fact, I never read comments on the back cover of the novel, it’s fun to let the story unfold itself.

The Secret

This book is a perfect example of how you can sell a thing just by giving it a bit mysterious look and an appealing name.

When I first saw this book I knew this would be one of those good-for-looking-only books. I avoided this book but some of my pals kept persuading me to read it, finally, I decided to check what’s the fuss all about.

The author has done a horrible job, there are tonnes of irrelevant quotes from irrelevant people on irrelevant topics! In fact, I didn’t actually like the look and feel of this book, I wonder why people love it.

How I completed the Goodreads Challenge, & other updates

giphy

Hie ! This post was meant to be written 15 days back, unfortunately, couldn’t do it all thanks to non-sense college assignments.

Anyway,

Those who are my friends on Goodreads must be knowing that I completed my book challenge 🙂  (yes, I am bragging :P)

This year I had decided to read 30 novels, now I feel that I should have taken 100 books challenge!

Last year I took 20 books challenge and had to read 4 books in the last week of December to finish it! I wasn’t expecting to read this fast, in fact, I was doubtful about finishing 30 books in a year!

How to Live on 24 Hours a Day

Rating: 4.5/5

When I started reading this book, I had no idea about it being hundred years old!

At the start, I felt that the tone of the writer is far different than what I am used to reading, after few pages I started loving the book, only after which I googled about it!

 book GIF

As the name says, the book teaches you how to live with satisfaction. It talks about your daily life & points towards the wrongs being done by you.

I have read several self-help books, most of them share more or less the same ideas, but this book is original, It made me ponder over my lifestyle, It told me things I never thought about.

I loved the way author communicated with the readers.

This book is quite short too, I recommend everyone to read it!

Below are my favourite quotes from the book

You have to live on this twenty-four hours of daily time. Out of it, you have to spin health, pleasure, money, content, respect, and the evolution of your immortal soul.

We never shall have any more time. We have, and we have always had, all the time there is.

Beware of undertaking too much at the start. Be content with quite a little. Allow for accidents. Allow for human nature, especially your own.

I love to interact with visitors 🙂

Have you read this book? What do you think of it?

Which is your favourite self-help book?

World War 1: A History From Beginning to End (Hour History Series)

” Short, quick, boring, pile of date-wise world war 1 stats “

^ this is what the book is, If you hate too many dates like me, you won’t like this book.

description

It would have been better if the author had put all the dates at the end of the book, But he didn’t, which made this more boring than my academic history books.

Me exactly while reading this book:

The only reason to read it is: it’s available for free on kindle.

My take: Better watch some World War 1 documentary than to read this collection of dates!

The Miserable Mill (A Series of Unfortunate Events #4)

Rating: 4/5

And the misfortune of the Baudelaires continues with this book!

After reading the first three parts, It is very clear that every adult in this series is a fat head! While reading this book, I felt constant urge to step into the story and punch every adult in the face!

Lemony Snicket is fun, it’s terribly depressing and highly entertaining.

I adore the development of the Baudelaire kids in this book.

A baby uses her teeth to sword fight with a grown woman and actual sword!

When someone says that this series is for children only,

me :

description

If you haven’t read the series yet, Believe me, it’s worth reading 🙂

Favourite excerpts:

“I’m sure you have heard it said that appearance does not matter so much, and that it is what’s on the inside that counts. This is, of course, utter nonsense, because if it were true then people who were good on this inside would  never have to comb their hair or take a bath, and the whole world would smell even worse than it already does.”

“It is much, much worse to receive bad news through the written word than by somebody simply telling you, and I’m sure you understand why. When somebody simply tells you bad news, you hear it once, and that’s the end of it. But when bad news is written down, whether in a letter or a newspaper or on your arm in felt tip pen, each time you read it, you feel as if you are receiving the news again and again.”

I would be glad if you leave your reactions in the comment section below.

I would love to know which book of series of unfortunate events is your favourite & make sure to tell me your other favourite series too 🙂

Have a good day ahead 🙂

The Curious Guy

Our story would have been complete but I didn’t ask

We could have been together but I didn’t ask

I would been the one .. The one with you but I didn’t ask.

Things I didn’t say .. Things you  didn’t listen.

I used to believe eyes do speak ..

Mine spoke for years ..
Didn’t you ever notice the eye staring at you for years …
Didn’t you ever notice the eyes which captured every moment when you blushed…

Eyes do speak .. May be my eyes were dumb … But still there are things … I didn’t say .. And things you didn’t listen..

It’s been years since the last good bye….
It’s been years since I saw you rejoice..
Its been years since I couldn’t resist myself to search u in college crowd….
It’s been years since…
