The perks of being a wallflower | BookReview

The only thing I regret after reading this book is not reading it before!

This book was on my reading list for years and I made sure not to watch the movie. (because for me movie spoils the characters I mould while reading the book.) Finally this week, some of my friends tried leaking the story to me & that’s when I decided to read this book before letting them spoil it!

And I am so proud of deciding to read it, and more than it, for not watching the movie! The characters are amazing and relatable. The quotes just make you think a lot!

The Tree of life (speech)

//I delivered this speech on 18th Feb Loudspeakers meetup.

//this is unedited

//the whole speech is my work, and if you are going to use any of the parts of it, make sure to link this blog page to it 🙂

Imagine a tree. A really big, dense tree. So long that no matter how much you climb, you can’t reach its zenith. It has innumerable branches!
The tree is laden fruits of all kinds, some small some really big, some bitter while as some sweet as anything can be! Most of the big fruits are at the very top while the small ones are mostly at the bottom.

A bunch of monkeys live in on the tree. Every day they wake up and go on the hunt for fruit.
Nearly everyone aims for those big fruits but while climbing the tree they see those small fruits which are so easy to get. And nearly all monkeys end up eating those and hence they never ever get the big fruits and this happens every day.
Every day the monkey decide that today they are going to climb the tree and would only stop when I reach the big fruit but soon they get distracted and attracted by those small fruits and this goes on forever!
As many of you have guessed by now that the monkeys are nothing but us, The tree is our life and the fruits are the thing which we consider as achievements. The big fruits are nothing but the big goals you have like being a professor or a motivational speaker, while small fruits are things like Instagram followers or just watching a movie, basically things which give happiness in short time.

Why you should give importance to your Sleep! (Speech)

//I delivered this speech on 27th Jan Loudspeakers meetup.

//this is unedited

Good evening,

It has been an amazing evening, Thanks for the beautiful speeches.

3-4 years back while preparing for university entrance, near the exam time, I felt that I need more time to study and blamed my sleep for wasting too much of my time. I came up with a mega plan, the plan was to sleep once in two days,  as my very extensive research showed that I spend 16 hours sleeping in two days if I sleep for 8 hours a day, but if I decide to sleep only once in 2 days, I would sleep just for 10-12hours, saving basically 4hours! I implemented the mega plan, and yes I got the mega results, I got severe headaches and I scored really really low in the entrance exams. No doubt, I was a fool back then and my foolishness lasted till for 2-3 years more. Until last year, I kept keeping my sleep at bay, Every night I would go to sleep around 2am and would wake up at 7am for college basically getting around 4-5 hours of sleep.

One of the best books I ever read!

Image result for loved this book

The language is lucid & since the story is from point of view of a child, the narration traps innocence of a child, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

In my book reviews, I never talk about the synopsis, neither I talk much about characters as I prefer to read books without having the slightest idea of the story,  in fact, I never read comments on the back cover of the novel, it’s fun to let the story unfold itself.

The Secret

Rating: 2/5

This book is a perfect example of how you can sell a thing just by giving it a bit mysterious look and an appealing name.

When I first saw this book I knew this would be one of those good-for-looking-only books. I avoided this book but some of my pals kept persuading me to read it, finally, I decided to check what’s the fuss all about.

The author has done a horrible job, there are tonnes of irrelevant quotes from irrelevant people on irrelevant topics! In fact, I didn’t actually like the look and feel of this book, I wonder why people love it.

How to Live on 24 Hours a Day

Rating: 4.5/5

When I started reading this book, I had no idea about it being hundred years old!

At the start, I felt that the tone of the writer is far different than what I am used to reading, after few pages I started loving the book, only after which I googled about it!

 book GIF

As the name says, the book teaches you how to live with satisfaction. It talks about your daily life & points towards the wrongs being done by you.

I have read several self-help books, most of them share more or less the same ideas, but this book is original, It made me ponder over my lifestyle, It told me things I never thought about.

I loved the way author communicated with the readers.

This book is quite short too, I recommend everyone to read it!

Below are my favourite quotes from the book

You have to live on this twenty-four hours of daily time. Out of it, you have to spin health, pleasure, money, content, respect, and the evolution of your immortal soul.

We never shall have any more time. We have, and we have always had, all the time there is.

Beware of undertaking too much at the start. Be content with quite a little. Allow for accidents. Allow for human nature, especially your own.

I love to interact with visitors 🙂

Have you read this book? What do you think of it?

Which is your favourite self-help book?

World War 1: A History From Beginning to End (Hour History Series)

” Short, quick, boring, pile of date-wise world war 1 stats “

^ this is what the book is, If you hate too many dates like me, you won’t like this book.

It would have been better if the author had put all the dates at the end of the book, But he didn’t, which made this more boring than my academic history books.

Me exactly while reading this book:

The only reason to read it is: it’s available for free on kindle.

My take: Better watch some World War 1 documentary than to read this collection of dates!

The Miserable Mill (A Series of Unfortunate Events #4)

Rating: 4/5

And the misfortune of the Baudelaires continues with this book!

After reading the first three parts, It is very clear that every adult in this series is a fat head! While reading this book, I felt constant urge to step into the story and punch every adult in the face!

Lemony Snicket is fun, it’s terribly depressing and highly entertaining.

I adore the development of the Baudelaire kids in this book.

A baby uses her teeth to sword fight with a grown woman and actual sword!

When someone says that this series is for children only,

me :

If you haven’t read the series yet, Believe me, it’s worth reading 🙂

Favourite excerpts:

“I’m sure you have heard it said that appearance does not matter so much, and that it is what’s on the inside that counts. This is, of course, utter nonsense, because if it were true then people who were good on this inside would  never have to comb their hair or take a bath, and the whole world would smell even worse than it already does.”

“It is much, much worse to receive bad news through the written word than by somebody simply telling you, and I’m sure you understand why. When somebody simply tells you bad news, you hear it once, and that’s the end of it. But when bad news is written down, whether in a letter or a newspaper or on your arm in felt tip pen, each time you read it, you feel as if you are receiving the news again and again.”

I would be glad if you leave your reactions in the comment section below.

I would love to know which book of series of unfortunate events is your favourite & make sure to tell me your other favourite series too 🙂

Have a good day ahead 🙂

Mayan Civilization: A History From Beginning to End (hourly history)

Rating: 1/5

Want to know how much shitty a book can be? Try this!

Ancient civilisations always interest me. I love knowing about the past and I guess everyone loves it. Obviously, I was excited to read this, but all I found in this book was mini boring history book full of dates and other irrelevant stuff! (my academic history book is umpteenth times more interesting than this! )
